On a cool night in the city of Kingston, Jennifer Barrett was born under the sign of Capricorn. The second child of Alice Chambers
From an early age it was detected that she was destined for stardom. Her love for music was unparalleled. Jen Jen as she was affectionately called, showed aptitude for her school work. « Always one of the top students in her classes » said her mother with a broad smile.
Her love for essay writing later developed in an early interest for journalism which extended to song writing, which brought her back to the beat, back to her first love : music. She was heard singing in church and was encouraged to try her luck in the reggae music buisness. Influenced by r & b artists such as diva Witney Houston ; Michael Jackson and reggae’s Bob Marley, Toots Hibbert and Dennis Brown, she was inspired to « Go for It » & record the songs she had written.
Her fisrt recording was done for Castro Brown on his « New name music label » namely « This World is filled with War ». This introduced her to the jamaican public a new singer/songwriter expressing herself, manifesting talent.
Toots became her manager/producer. He is solely responsible for shapping Jen Jen’s professional career. A single was released namely « Dirty Lover » which was very popular on the jamaican air waves.
Others singles released at the same time are : « Don’t pressure Me » which is released on the addis label, « Hot mi Hot » was done for jamaican producer and singer Candyman, which came out on his « Sweet Beat » label.
Recently she hit the market with two new serious songs on the same « Addis » label : « Justice » & « World Suffering ». They have received a very nice feedback from the crowd in Jamaica & internationally.
She has travelled extensively as a back up singer for group such as « the Wailers » touring USA, Europe and South America.
Jennifer aspires to become a international performers out of jamaica and with her savvy, enthousiasm and her undying love for her music this will surely be a dream realized.
