Bio:Mojo Morgan
Born in Brooklyn’s tough Bushwick neighborhood, Mojo Morgan was raised in Springfield, Massachusetts, and spent his summer vacations back in New York’s hippest outer borough, where he returned after high school. Although he grew up in Massachusetts, the family was able to maintain a home in Jamaica and made sure the strong Jamaican culture was present in the home while raising the children in America. As a member of Reggae super group Morgan Heritage, they started recording for the first time professionally in the 80’s. The band signed to MCA Records in 1992 (following a much-talked about performance at Jamaica’s Reggae Sunsplash Festival), issuing its debut album, Miracles, in 1994, triggering one of the most impressive streaks in modern-day Reggae since. In a dozen years, the band has racked up several hits in Jamaica and abroad including the most recent 1 Reggae smash hit "Nothing To Smile About" in Jamaica, Holland, UK, USA, and around the world. Morgan Heritage has also had top chart success over the last 5 albums. Not to be forgotten is the intense touring that the band has done, which has brought them across the globe. From North America to Africa to Asia and the South Pacific back to South America. Europe has been the stronghold for the group, where they have played all the major Rock and Reggae Festivals alike. Africa holds a special place in their heart and has showed great support towards the group when they played sold out Stadiums in Senegal, Gambia, Mauritius and all across the Continent. Surrounded by sessions of intensive vocal and instrumental training, Mojo Morgan was exposed to everything from the godfathers of Roots Reggae to top 40 American Radio: everything from Sade and Bryan Adams to The Cranberries and Hootie and The Blowfish. Those musical influences have formed a new direction for Mojo Morgan’s solo career. Mojo Morgan is from a Roots Reggae band, but is heavy influenced by Rock n Roll and Hip-Hop. You hear that influence when you listen to the body of songs he’s been working on in the Studio. With the loyal core fan base of Morgan Heritage, which has included successful touring, BET, MTV, VH1, and Radio play. A great platform has been set for Mojo Morgan to reach a wider audience.
