legendary Jamaican trumpeter, keyboard player, band leader and jazz musician, Sonny Bradshaw, died in London, UK on Saturday night (October 10) from the effects of a stroke which he had suffered in August of this year. Prior to that, he had been struggling with a heart condition for several years.
Born in 1926, Bradshaw was a skilled trumpeter who also played the piano, clarinet, trombone, and saxophone. In the 1950s he formed the “Sonny Bradshaw Seven”, which was a training ground for many Jamaican musicians, and he also played a key role in the ‘big band’ style of music which dominated here in Jamaica prior to the 1950s.
