The management team for acclaimed international reggae singer, Beres Hammond, is livid over recent Internet reports that the singer is suffering from a rare form of throat cancer.

“There is absolutely no truth to the report,” Beres’ manager, Mervys Walsh said firmly. “As a matter of fact, for the last 10 years every so often there is a story that Beres has throat cancer or that he is dead. Cancer is not an illness that you call down on even your worst enemy .. as a matter of fact when you are reciting the alphabet you skip past the letter ‘C’,” she declared.

The website claims in a headline story that it is ‘confirmed’ that the hard-working, in-demand entertainer is suffering from the same disease which killed Gregory Isaacs. The story also claims that Beres spoke about his illness in a radio interview.

“It is sad that in reggae we do not cherish our artistes; we try to tear them down,” Hammond’s’ manager said. “Every time we are in Europe on tour, his family gets some report that he collapsed on stage. Prior to leaving in June for our six-week tour it was falsely rumoured that Beres had been hospitalized and could not go on tour. People need to stop pushing around all of this negative energy and focus on the positives,” she said.

Beres reportedly underwent his annual physical in February of this year, “and everything was fine”.

Walsh told chatychaty.com that Beres Hammond has remained true to form, performing for up to two hours each time he goes on a stage, regardless of the fact that his contract says sixty minutes. “Over the weekend we were in St Croiz, where Beres has not performed in over nine years and it was as if he couldn’t stop singing. He came off stage after 3:30 and stayed at the venue until the sun was coming up signing autographs and taking pictures,” she said.

According to his manager, “Beres was called to do music and he is blessed. When I read the story to him this morning (Thursday) he said, ‘Well even Jesus Christ they killed. Don’t let it send up your blood pressure.’ But I know that it hurts him that people can be so callous.”

Beres Hammond is an international force in reggae music and is certainly one of the genre’s most dependable and in-demand acts all year round.

This latest rumour comes days after the death of reggae legend, Gregory Isaacs, reportedly from lung cancer. During his lifetime, Gregory too, was dogged by reports that he had died or that he had collapsed while performing on stage in a foreign land.
