While it is true that the current trend in Jamaica is towards a reggae revival, the dancehall scene is not left behind and has its share of promising young talents. Proof of this: for some months now, the name Aidonia has been heard more and more. This young DJ with an incisive style follows in the line of a Kartel or an Assassin, cultivating a cleverly deconstructed flow that flirts with hip-hop. It was in spring 2005 that the young Sheldon Itano Ricardo Lawrence got himself noticed with his hit Lolly, on Kings Of Kings' Irish dance riddim, a sort of answer to 50 Cent's famous Candy shop, which has been all the rage in yardie dances. Since then, Aidonia has kept releasing singles, mostly good ones, and it is rare for a new riddim to come out without him on it; the terrific Shot a go fire on the Hello Moto and Hollywood on the Legendary are two glaring examples. Like Jagwa, Aidonia is therefore a safe bet to watch closely, and one who could well outdo some veterans who are running out of steam.
