Arrested by police last Friday and questioned since, Vybz Kartel was charged with murder on Monday evening, reports the Jamaica Observer.

Picked up in a hotel with three other people for illegal possession of marijuana, Vybz Kartel was above all being questioned in connection with the investigation into the murder of Barrington "Bossie" Burton, a 27-year-old promoter killed on 11 July 2011 in St Catherine. A crime for which Vybz Kartel is accused of conspiring with other men.
The police raids on his numerous residences follow the discovery of a charred body on one of his properties in St Andrew.
A preliminary court hearing is expected to take place today.
This police operation could target other artists: Assistant Commissioner Ealan Powell said that the authorities were looking at "at least 10 members of the entertainment industry, some of whom have been involved in several murders and shootings".
Kartel is no stranger to Jamaican jails: last year, he spent two weeks behind bars. In 2008, he was also incarcerated in connection with the investigation into the murder of Christopher Miller.
