At 60, David Rodigan is thus rewarded for his immense contribution. He is one of those who helped introduce reggae to the wider British public. Sound clash fans around the world know him well, as much for his possessed performances as for his sense of fair play. He landed at the BBC in 1978, before moving to the airwaves of Capital Radio. After his radio clashes against the Jamaican Barry G, he gained renown and respect in Jamaica and became one of the only white men to play side by side with the island's best sounds.

"I am humbled and honoured at the same time to receive such an award," David Rodigan reacted in the columns of The Voice. "More than anything, it is recognition of the music we love, the music I have been playing for more than 30 years. My love has always been reggae, and I see this honour as an honour for our music. I am delighted that our music has been recognised in this way."
