Featured on Manu Chao's latest album "La Radiolina", the track Politik Kills is getting very special treatment: revisited by various artists, an EP will soon be available, bringing together six different mixes. And not exactly unknowns: Dennis Bovell and LKJ, Chris Blackwell, Prince Fatty, Rude Barriobeat...
Listen to the remixes by Prince Fatty and Dennis Bovell, a version some may have discovered on 31 March on One Shot Note, a new programme on Arte hosted by Manu Katché.
Until the release of the project on 21 April, a website has been set up specially: http://www.politikills.com ; besides the superb video (shot in Monrovia, Liberia and directed by Manu Chao himself and Jean-Stéphane Sauvaire), you will find the various remixed versions, and above all a free track to download (the vocal dub version of Dennis Bovell's mix with LKJ) and the chance to download the stems of the original track so you can make your own version! With, of course, the possibility of having your remix streamed on the site. The cherry on the cake of a devilishly original project.
EP tracklist:
A1- Dennis Bovell (feat. LKJ) remix
A2- Prince Fatty remix
A3- Chris Blackwell & Paul "Groucho" Smyke remix
B1- Rude Barriobeat remix
B2- David B. remix
B3- Prince Fatty Instr. remix

Met in passing during the recording of Manu Katché's programme One Shot Note, broadcast on Arte, LKJ and his sidekick, bassist Dennis Bovell, had been invited to feature with Manu Chao. 30 years after the release of "Dread, Beat & Blood", the musical setting of the collection of poems of the same name published in 1975, we had a lot of questions for LKJ. "I don't much like doing interviews," he warns us, "you have five minutes." Intrigued by a translation of Nicolas Sarkozy's Dakar speech that we showed him, he finally gave us a quarter of an hour: just enough to skim over the themes we wanted to cover.
