Bost & Bim are adding a new string to their bow: dub. The famous French production duo released their first dub album, "Dub Monster", on 18 June, the fruit of their meeting with Fabrice "Fabwize" Boyer, sound engineer for Tu-Shung Peng, Colocks, Jamaica All Stars and others…
Far from being a whim (after all, who still releases dub albums in 2012?), the idea for "Dub Monster" took root a long time ago. "We'd had it in mind for several years, without it ever coming to anything, says Bim. And then, when we talked about it with Fabwize, it was a done deal. He came to listen to tracks at our place, and then we picked the titles together, from the ones he liked. We added extra tracks on the riddims (percussion, keyboards), so that he'd have material to work with, and we gave him carte blanche. It's really his reading of them."
"Dub Monster" thus dips into Bost & Bim's vast catalogue: Lyricson (Lord of all lords), Capleton (Dem doom), Brisa Roché and Lone Ranger (Jamaican Boy)… Other tracks are previously unreleased. "The idea was to have musical variety: rub a dub and one drop at once, with acoustic stuff and other, very digital stuff."
"Bringing the dub monster back to life"
In the great tradition of the dub albums of Lee Perry or Scientist, "Dub Monster" is illustrated by a sleeve inspired by American comics. There is, for instance, a nod to "Swamp Thing" ("La Créature du marais"). The teasers that preceded the album's release also played the B-movie horror card.
"The whole universe came from the artwork, Bim continues. We all loved the sleeves of the Scientist and Lee Perry albums that refer to Marvel and teen movies. We knew we wanted a sleeve like that, and the universe (the sound effects, the dialogue) was created in the same movement. The idea of the plot is to bring the dub monster back to life."
The album teems with strange sound effects and dialogue, shaping a gloomy atmosphere. And the titles are in keeping: Dub monster, Creepy movie, Guess who's back, Nightmare dub… "It's a sort of tribute to the tribute: Marvel, horror and B-movies, spaghetti westerns, we also know them thanks to the dub albums of the 70s."
With the 10" featuring Omar Perry and Earl 16 and the compilation "The Bombing vol 3" only just out, Bost & Bim are currently working on the next albums by Lyricson and Peetah Morgan, and recording with Gappy Ranks and Taïro, among others. Above all, they are working on bringing "Dub Monster" to the stage. To be discovered on tour before the end of the year.

.That's life that's music, love and rebirth !!!!
Big up to all the music's conquerors
