Inna de Yard adds a new voice of reggae to its bow with the falsetto of Junior Murvin. Makasound had the good idea of seeking out the now discreet author of Police & Thieves to invite him onto its acoustic series hosted by Earl Chinna Smith and recorded in his yard. Seventh release on Inna de Yard, Junior Murvin thus follows Cedric Myton or Kiddus I in the category of singers with real voices. With a career abnormally at a standstill for nearly twenty years (if we except his recent European tour), Junior Murvin could not have found a better setting for his timbre with its soul and blues accents. In the stripped-back grooves the series has been tracing since its creation in 2005, he revisits American soul classics and, of course, some of his greatest hits.

It is the best known of them that opens the album: Police & Thieves, a reggae classic recorded by Lee Perry in 1977, covered by the Clash and even Boy George, which gains in inertia what it loses in percussion; Badman posse, which gives its name to the album produced by Mikey Dread in 1982, or Roots Train. Time has not altered this unique voice, which plays with soul standards: Ain't no shunshine by Bill Withers and Gipsy Woman by Curtis Mayfield (of such intensity that the neighbour's dog does not stay indifferent!) are brilliant reinterpretations. But it is the dazzling Rescue the Children that shines brightest and impresses most. Undeniably the high point of this short album (about 40 minutes), which nonetheless stands out as one of the most successful of the series.
