The 3 Jamaican veterans meet Steve Mosco of Jah Warrior and his bass-overdosed dubs for a very successful 14-track CD. Each sung version is followed by its dub version.
For followers of the Blood & Fire Sound System, you have surely come across these 3 deejays on their tours. U Brown, Rankin Joe and Trinity all have an important musical past behind them.
U-Brown notably worked for the legendary King Tubby Hi-Fi Sound System and recorded for many producers such as Bunny Lee (Channel 1), Gussie Clarke and Linval Tompson. His hits are " Train To Zion " in combination with Linval Thompson, " Weather Baloon " and " Tu Shung Peng " on Dennis Brown's " Revolution " version.
Ranking Joe began his career under the name Little Joe for the El Paso sound, and recorded his first track for Studio 1: Gun Court.
Little Joe would later become Rankin Joe and recorded for Dennis Brown and Joe Gibbs... He later formed his own label based in Brooklyn, where he currently lives. The Ranking Joe label has been recognised for years already (Cuss Cuss, Satta Massagana, Stormy Weather and Shang I Sheck riddims), all backed by the Roots Radics.
Trinity is a deejay from the mid-70s, known for a few hits in combination with Al Campbell and Dillinger. He became known internationally through his work with Yabby Yu.
Some will remain sceptical about Jah Warrior's work, which is nonetheless digital and sports rather techno-like riddims. It is, however, an innovation in the genre, so if you have an open mind, this is for you.... |
