Two years after a first "best of" compilation in Greensleeves' Monsters of dancehall series, VP is back with a tracklist that is really only updated, and a DVD.
This "very best of" in fact offers no fewer than 8 tracks (out of 18) that were already on the Monsters of dancehall compilation: quite a feat when you know that the pachyderm's catalogue runs to hundreds of items!
It is hard to begrudge one's pleasure, though, as the selection remains good, alternating early successes (Replacement killer, Hot girls with Wayne Marshall, Shizzle ma nizzle), the essential "dancing tunes" (Pon the river, Signal de plane, Gansgter rock) and very recent hits such as Dance on the Baddaz riddim, Old broom in a duet with Demarco and the excellent Nuh linga.
The real added value of this "best of" lies more in the DVD part, which brings together several videos, even if here too, not all are new.
It includes an interview, already broadcast, videos (Willie bounce, Bun bad mind and Rrrh!) and the famous concert for VP's 25th anniversary, recorded in 2004 in Miami. Above all, a chance to see the extraordinary dancer Gerald "Bogle" Levy on stage, murdered in 2005.
The funniest moment on the DVD is undoubtedly the tour of Ele's villa in the hills above Kingston: the viewer follows the artist through the various rooms filled with numerous guests and gets to know the dogs, birds and rabbits that are the owner's pride and joy.
