Chapter Two is the new chapter of the founders of Makasound, Romain Germa and Nicolas Maslowski. A new start, with a broader horizon. While waiting for Derajah's "Paris is burning", the label's first release is devoted to Tom Fire. A French producer and multi-instrumentalist, he worked for No One Is Innocent, Java and Winston McAnuff before going solo. Not the kind of producer who tries to recapture the sound of 1970s Jamaica, but on the contrary one who moves the cursor. Reggae, pop, electro, world: Tom Fire stirs genres together and tinkers with his tracks on old machines, samplers and drum machines. A vast melting pot in tune with the times in which the connection with Jamaica, though sometimes distant, remains the common denominator.

Revenge is a dish best served cold, and Tom Fire's first album is the kind of record to listen to in your living room, settled deep in the armchair. A delayed-action tempo, like the dub lullaby 45 stories, for a very gentle introduction. The album thus stretches out in long instrumental loops, reminiscent of Le Peuple de l'herbe or Gotan Project, minus the tango (The candle, The Revenge), and the guests underline the position at the crossroads of styles. Chapter Two has brought back a few of its house artists. With the exception of Jaqee, a little out of bounds, the appearances of Matthew McAnuff (for the single Brainwash, already heard on the EP of the same name), or of Derajah and his big Legalize it in dancefloor mode, inject an appreciable dynamic. The tracklist holds one last surprise with MC Solaar, who writes the fine rhymes of the airy Marche ou rêve, the only track in French. As we will have gathered, Tom Fire's revenge is eclectic and melts into an unclassifiable cocktail.
