Review written by Philippe Hory on Thursday, April 11th 2013 - 9 184 views Available since mid-March, "Rub A Dubstep Emergency" by Fogata Sounds is a musical project at the crossroads of reggae and electro, in a style of its own dubbed "rubadubstep". An energetic dub that gives pride of place to the lyrics, marrying the vibrant sounds of dubstep with the powerful voices of dancehall and new roots. At the controls is a trio made up of Krak In Dub (a French producer who made his name, among other things, with the Mas I Mas sound in the heyday of the free parties), Hug Ho (a dub old-timer in France, notably producer of the late Puppa Leslie's album "Gom Jabbar") and Nino Selecta, the sound's official selector. An album where we find, among others, a few emblematic figures with effective remixes of Soul Vybz productions, such as Capleton's inspired Rise or Bun Babylon, a boiling combination between Luciano and the same King Shango. In the same vein, and still without distorting the original songs, we discover the remixes of Alborosie's Rainy Day and Can’t We Get Out by Mad Cobra and Luckie D, two tracks also released in recent years on the French label's catalogue. These remixes sit alongside original productions such as Lone Ranger with his invigorating Step It or the Brixton veteran Tippa Irie for Loud & Clear. We also find Solo Banton, a regular of digital sounds in his work with Jahtari, on In The Place. Fogata Sounds also invites Troy Berkeley, its own MC (with Matta and Silent Rivers), and the versatile Demolition Man aka Ras Demo (on Slow Motion). Also worth discovering is the Russian Steppa Style, who gets a remix of his track See The World. A coherent whole, "Rub A Dubstep Emergency" will delight fans of the genre and is, for the curious in search of strong musical sensations, an excellent introduction to the work of Fogata Sounds.
