The Tewolde brothers hail from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. In the early 1980s, the socio-political situation forced them into exile in Sweden. There they play a reggae steeped in mysticism and spirituality.

Little by little, the two brothers (Medhane and Noah Isac) have made a name for themselves. Many Jamaican artists have called on these authentic Ethiopian Rastas: Iqulah, Kulcha Knox, Cedella Booker… After a few solo ventures, the two brothers decided to focus their efforts on a duo project. The Nazarenes came into being in 1998. A first album, "Orit", came out in 2001 and surprised with its depth, its Rasta authenticity and the quality of its arrangements, putting rasta reggae back among contemporary music. The Nazarenes then played one European festival after another.

An essential 2004 release
This second opus, "Songs of Life", came out in Europe in September but only reached France in November. The result is a powerful roots reggae delivering a sincere message of love, unity and hope. The album revolves around the concept of the "Song of …", and one notices in particular the opening one drop Song of Judgement Day, the harmonies of Song of Righteous Life and the revisited 'Tempo riddim' on Song of Liberation. Among the album's 13 tracks there are a few ballads. Song of Mary Jane, heavily influenced by soul music, and Song of Mother Earth with its falsetto lead lighten the whole thing a little. Worth noting: a featuring from T-Root on Song of Creation, an interesting horn section and the coherence of an album that will be remembered. It logically ends with Song of Memories, a sort of nyabinghi ballad. The whole record was composed, arranged and produced by the two Tewolde brothers in Sweden. The deep vocal harmonies and the simple but never simplistic instrumentation make this disc an essential of 2004.
