A few days earlier and you might have taken it for an April Fool's joke, but the news is perfectly serious: a remake of Perry Henzell's famous film "The Harder they come", which made Jimmy Cliff's name in 1972, is in preparation.

It is his daughter, Justine Henzell, who confirmed the project: "For years many people have approached us with remake ideas, and for the first time I trust the team we have put together, which will do justice to the original film while creating a new story."
Chris Salewicz, the English journalist and writer, wrote the screenplay. Known for his numerous articles in the NME and the British press, he is also the author (with the photographer Adrian Boot) of "Bob Marley: Rasta Legend" and of the bible "Reggae Explosion". He also wrote the booklet for the box set "The Story of Jamaican Music", and co-wrote the screenplay of the film Third World Cop in 1999.
The remake of "The Harder They Come" is a co-production between Henzell, Xingu Films and Conquering Lion Pictures. Shooting should begin this year in Jamaica and London, for a cinema release in 2012, forty years after the original film came out.
