Makasound: Most Wanted
on Tuesday, November 02nd 2004 - 60 657 views
Continuing its work shining a light on reggae’s forgotten, Makasound will release the compilation "Wanted" on 15 November 2004. This compilation, with a very successful sleeve, brings together 16 obscure artists: Raphael Tomlinson, The Psalms, Roy Dobson, Black Crucial, Al Joseph, Aston Gayle, Upright Foundation, Basil Thompson, John Giscombe and Bright Wynter. Released at the time in limited numbers, these tracks were recorded between 1973 and 1983.
A long-haul project for Makasound, this release is being made in partnership with the Jamaican association JAVAA (Jamaican Association of Vintage Artists & Affiliates) in order to track down these artists of fleeting glory and pay them their royalties. The first results are in: although the record is not yet out, three of them have already been found: Raphael Tomlinson, Delano Tucker, and The Psalms. A very fine initiative from Makasound.
Makasound is also launching two new labels. The first, Inna De Yard, aims to offer acoustic recordings by Jamaican artists. Earl Chinna Smith, the celebrated guitarist of Soul Syndicate, opens the ball with the album "Earl "Chinna" Smith & Idrens inna de yard". The first volumes of the collection were recorded under his artistic direction and in his yard. You will find Jah Youth, Ken Bob, Ras Michael Junior, The Maestro and Prince Emmanuel I. Release is scheduled for 10 January 2005. An album by Kiddus I is expected on the same label at the end of February
Before that, the label Black Eye will host from November the three-track EP by Steve Newland, a member of the Jamaican group The Roots Underground. In early 2005, the album "E Drop" by Winston McAnuff & The Bazbaz Orchestra will also be released on Black Eye.
