Junior Delgado has left us

Nicknamed Jux, Junior Delgado started frequenting the studios very early under the name Junior Hibbert, in the group Time Unlimited. In 1973, when Junior was only 15, Lee Perry spotted them. Together they wrote a hit, Reaction, among other songs. After Perry came Rupie Edwards, Tommy Cowan, Bunny Lee and finally Niney Holness. In 1975, Junior left the group and took the name Junior Delgado.

He had to wait until he joined Dennis Brown on his DEB label for the hits to return: Famine or Devil's Throne, found on his first album, "Taste of The Young Heart", in 1978. His second album, "Effort", came out on his own label Incredible Jux, created in 1979. That did not stop him from working with other producers such as Prince Jammy, Augustus Pablo (Blackman's Heart Cries Out, Away With You Fussing and Fighting, Fort Augustus) or Perry (Sons of Slaves).

In 1986, after eighteen months in prison, the Junior Delgado / Augustus Pablo partnership got back to work with the albums "Raggamuffin Year" and "One step more" (1988). The pace slowed in the 1990s. When Dennis Brown died in 1998, Junior Delgado released a tribute album: "Junior Delgado Sings Dennis Brown". He also launched Yami Bolo's career, producing several of his hits. He was on the Ja'Sound stage last summer.
