Threatened with cancellation by several gay rights associations, things are getting complicated for Sizzla. Six concerts are still under threat: Bordeaux, Marseille, Montpellier, Paris, Toulouse and Quimper. Sizzla has nonetheless given in to the associations' demands for a written declaration echoing the terms of Capleton's (see the news of 8 June). The deejay wrote: "I know that in the past, some of my works may have seemed to incite violence against others, which was never my intention. In any case, I will not perform these works on stage, so as not to offend anyone".
But, just like Capleton's, Sizzla's promises may well not be enough to guarantee the concert goes ahead. The associations want to turn the deejay into a sort of spokesperson for their cause, urging him to condemn "homophobic and transphobic attacks in Jamaica and throughout the world", failing which the concerts will be cancelled. They also consider that "Sizzla is merely confirming a commitment announced as early as 4 February" and that he "refrains from mentioning the withdrawal of these "works" from sale".
