Having been barred from Europe this year, Sizzla is reportedly also under threat in Jamaica, where the leading figures of the reggae scene would apparently rather follow the European example on homophobia. This was at the Red Stripe Reggae Sumfest, held in Montego Bay from 17 to 23 July. On the night of the 22nd, Sizzla reportedly gave one of the best performances of the festival, while also making a number of homophobic remarks, including his song Nah Apologize, recorded in response to the actions of gay rights organisations.
At a press conference on Saturday 23 July, the Sumfest organisers pointed the finger (without naming anyone) at an artist who "went beyond the Sponsors Coalition agreement on incitement to violence in lyrics", the Jamaican Star reported in its 27 July edition.
Despite Capleton and Elephant Man appearing on stage the same night, it seems Sizzla is the first in line to be banned from the Jamaican festival's stage next year. Just like Beenie Man and Bounty Killer who, for the same reasons, did not take part in the 2005 edition.
