The Jamaican radio station Irie FM has decided to remove all Jah Cure tracks from its programming, the daily Jamaica Star reports. Behind the decision are death threats received by members of the station, for playing more tracks by the imprisoned singer. Dangazone, who manage Jah Cure, said they were disappointed, but respect Irie FM's decision.
"You can't take this kind of thing lightly, and we understand Irie FM's position in this matter," said the Dangazone spokesperson. "Whoever is making these calls must understand that if they truly love Jah Cure, they must stop these threats. It is obvious that this is not helping him, but hurting him," he added.
The Jamaican Star points out that Zip FM, owned by Irie FM, is not affected by this decision, as it has not received any threats. These practices are very common in Jamaica. The role of radio in the success of a track or the emergence of an artist is essential, exposing presenters to pressure and even threats to play a track on air.
