Mortimer Planno has passed away

Mortimer Planno has passed away on Sunday March 5th at the University Hospital of the West Indies. His state was critical since a heart attack in 2001. Key figure of the Rastafarian community, highly respected in Jamaica, Mortimer Planno was a mentor for many rasta artists including Bob Marley.

Born in Cuba in 1929, he was the one who welcome Haile Selassie when the Negus visited Jamaica in 1966. Founding member of the Rastafari Movement Association, he is the author of the only serious study on the rastafari movement ("Report of the Rastafari Movement in Kingston Jamaica 1960") and was part of the organisation of the One Love Peace Concert in 1978.
