The 2006 American Music Awards, held on 21 November, have delivered their verdict. In the midst of a list of winners made up mostly of rock and hip hop artists, there is... Sean Paul! The Jamaican, now living in Uncle Sam's country, was nominated in the male pop/rock artist category alongside Kanye West and Nick Lachey. He walked away with the statuette at the end of a ceremony held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles and broadcast by ABC.
The Black Eyed Peas won three awards, in the rap and soul / r'n'b categories, as well as the trophy for rap album of the year for "Monkey business". Eminem was voted favourite hip hop artist. The Red Hot Chili Peppers received the awards for best alternative artist and best pop / rock group. Shakira won in the Latin music category.
