The one true classic of Jamaican cinema, inspired by the story of Ivanhoe Martin aka Rhygin (played by Jimmy Cliff), the famous outlaw of the 1950s, "The harder they come", released in 1972, propelled the Jamaican world onto the international stage. Its director, Perry Henzell, a Jamaican of English origin, died on Thursday 30 November 2006 of cancer.

We told you in September (see news of 07/09/2006) about the trials that had delayed the release of the second instalment of this saga. Begun in 1973, Perry Henzell's project for a second feature film, titled "No place like home", had just come back to life and been scheduled at the Toronto festival. The film, screened as a preview on Friday night in Negril in the presence of Perry Henzell's family, will therefore remain a posthumous testament.
