After a rowdy birthday party (see the news of 26 December), Mavado got himself talked about again last week and is at serious risk of making enemies.
On the evening of Sunday 7 January, shots were fired from a car at the St Andrew hair salon where the young deejay used to work and which he visited regularly. One man was wounded and rumours quickly pointed to Vybz Kartel, with whom Mavado had a lyrical feud, although Kartel was celebrating his birthday in Portmore at the time.
Two days later, the Exodus studio, where Kartel had begun his celebrations, was in turn targeted by shots fired from a car. Nobody was hurt, but Mrs Braithwaite, wife of Ernest "Father Romeo" Braithwaite, boss of the Exodus studio, who was coming home at that moment, got a nasty fright. The car has since been identified as that of Foota Hype, Mavado's selector, who has nevertheless denied any involvement.
While several artists, Kartel among them, have tried to play the incidents down by blaming fanatics, the police are still looking for Mavado and Foota Hype, whom they intend to question to learn more.
