Tyrone Taylor has died

His name is unknown to most reggae fans, and yet Tyrone Taylor had his moment of fame in 1983 with his lovers rock hit Cottage in Negril. The singer, who was fifty, died on Sunday 2 December in Kingston, of cancer.

Originally from St. Elizabeth, Tyrone Taylor began his musical career in the 1970s, recording notably for Winston "Niney" Holness. After the success of Cottage in Negril, covered by Duane Stephenson on his album "From August Town", his trail grew faint again. In 1998 Jet Star devoted a compilation to him, gathering his singles from the 1980s and 1990s.
