Stephen Marley wins the Grammy

Once again a Marley has won the Grammy Award for best album of 2007 : Stephen Marley took the trophy for his album "Mind Control". He thus follows Ziggy Marley in 2006 and Damian Marley in 2005. Stephen Marley beat Burning Spear, Lee Scratch Perry, Sly & Robbie and Toots & The Maytals, who were also nominated (news of 07/12/2008). Toots & The Maytals, nominated for the album "Light Your Light", thus failed to repeat their 2004 success ("True Love").

In the other categories, Amy Winehouse swept the ceremony, winning no fewer than five "music Oscars" (record of the year, song of the year, best new artist, best pop vocal album, best female pop vocal performance). Kanye West, who led the nominations with eight, took home four trophies : best rap album for "Graduation", best rap song for Good Life, best solo rap performance for «Stronger» and best rap performance by a duo or group for his collaboration with Common on Southside. Finally, album of the year went to Herbie Hancock for his album "River: The Joni Letters". « It's been 43 years since the first and last jazz artist received the Grammy for album of the year », he noted on receiving the statuette.
