After Serbia, where a statue of the singer was erected, Montpellier: the place Bob Marley, in the student district, was inaugurated on Saturday 8 November, reports Midi Libre.

It is the first time in France that an institutional tribute has been paid to the Jamaican singer. "It seems that in France we are the first to put up a Bob Marley plaque," declared the mayor, Hélène Mandroux. "When you know his life, his message, a message in which respect for human beings is very important." As for the veiled apology for cannabis that supposedly lurks behind this plaque, it was swept aside by Jaques Vallet, former director general of the city's services: "What would people say about Rimbaud, Baudelaire and how many other artists?"
