It's the latest rumour buzzing around Kingston: the site Outaroad is putting forward the far-fetched theory that Vybz Kartel is in thrall to Freemasonry and is therefore considered demonic. It all began with an email sent to several newsrooms on the island, listing various signs supposedly showing the deejay's allegiance.
His ring is said to bear a Masonic symbol (the square and compasses), while his tune Broad day light on the Day Break Riddim, in which Kartel can be heard declaiming "mi reach 33 degrees a masonry", is a reference to the 33 degrees of the Masonic hierarchy. And if on top of that the deejay systematically walks free from his trials, that is the definitive proof that Vybz Kartel has joined a secret society. We'll be laughing for a while yet.
