Rita Marley is getting ready to open a state-of-the-art recording studio in Aburi, Ghana, funded by her foundation. Named Studio 1, in tribute to the legendary Jamaican label, the imposing building is due to be inaugurated on 17 October for Ziggy Marley's birthday.

Created in 1998, the Rita Marley foundation is particularly active in Ghana, where Bob Marley's widow now lives, through school scholarships, an annual festival and the construction of a health centre in Konkonuru.
The foundation's flagship project for about ten years, Studio 1 Ghana aims to provide a modern facility, to international standards, for all West African musicians and beyond. The studio is also powered by solar panels, to make up for the weaknesses of the local grid.
