Jamaica, its people and its artists are mobilising to help their neighbours in Haiti, devastated by an earthquake last Tuesday in the Port-au-Prince region.

While a 20-strong medical team is already on the ground, many fundraising and supply drives are being organised. Nurses and taxi drivers, for example, have launched their own fundraising operations. Meanwhile, the media and the government are trying to get news of Jamaicans living in Haiti.
In the wake of Haitian-born Wyclef Jean, who called on artists to get involved, Beenie Man answered the call. So did Buju Banton, who, from his cell in Florida, is said to have promised to donate 1,000 dollars as well as clothes and supplies.
Brothers Julian and Kymani Marley performed at a benefit concert in Miami last Friday.
However, Richie Spice's concert on the island, planned long ago for the end of the month, has been cancelled, for obvious reasons.
