It is not uncommon to see artists' children follow in their father's footsteps. There are many examples, and a new "son of" is making his mark: Duce Califa, aka Fabian Smith, 18, is none other than one of Garnett Silk's sons. But it is not in reggae that he has chosen to express himself, but in hip-hop.

"I respect my father and what he did, but that belongs to him, not to me. Just as we are different people, we have different dreams. Besides, I don't think it would do people justice to copy what my father stood for. That's simply not me," he explains.
The young artist thus defends the vision of a Jamaican hip-hop that would have nothing to be ashamed of next to its big American brother. In a nod from history, Duce Califa has worked with producer Delroy Collins (Rhythem track records), who also recorded his illustrious father.
His first recording, Screamin’ with Natural Blacks, is starting to make its way onto the radio. To check it out, head to his MySpace.
