"Babylon say jail for me", Vybz Kartel declared in the song Bail for me. The rhyme had become reality: held by the authorities following a summons made public at the end of June, the deejay has just been released after spending more than 15 days in detention.

The news should delight Robert Russel, the boss of the annual Sumfest festival in Montego Bay, who has booked Kartel for the "dancehall night" next Thursday.
Vybz Kartel had turned himself in to St Catherine police in early July, after learning that he was on a list of 6 people wanted in the Portmore area, which is under a state of emergency.
The deejay was reportedly questioned about his links with gangs in his parish and was to remain in detention for 30 days. His lawyer, Christian Tavares-Finson (who is none other than the son of Dudus's former lawyer, also a JLP senator) and the Sumfest organisers weighed in to speed up the release procedure.
