Biographies by the dozen, comic books, a musical… but no film. Bob Marley has never yet been honoured by the cinema. Yet this is not the first time a film project about Bob Marley's life has been mentioned. The latest, announced in 2006, was a film by Rachid Bouchareb, with Jamie Foxx in the role of the Tuff Gong. In 2004, there was also talk of an adaptation of Rita Marley's autobiography (No Woman no cry ; my life with Bob Marley), with Lauryn Hill, her daughter-in-law in real life, in the role of Rita.

This time, it is British director Jenny Ash who is said to intend to tell the life of the most famous Wailer on film, with an emphasis on his London period, which he began in 1977 after surviving an assassination attempt in Jamaica.
"There has never been any fiction about Bob Marley. We have never had a vision of the man, as opposed to the legend," Jenny Ash told the Deadline website.
However, a major obstacle stands in the way: the producers have not yet managed to negotiate the rights to use the songs. Wait and see…
