Found guilty last month, Buju Banton still does not know the sentence awaiting him. The deejay's sentence will be handed down on 16 June 2011; he faces life imprisonment for cocaine trafficking. The hearing will be presided over by Judge James Moody.

His lawyer, Markus, said he had filed a motion calling for his client's acquittal or a new trial, as well as his release on bail. The prosecution dismissed the request, calling it "baseless".
Back behind bars, Buju Banton thanked his fans for their unwavering support. The day before his second trial opened, he received the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album of the year for his record "Before the dawn".
