Jah Woosh takes his bow

Jah Woosh died on Sunday 20 February from bone cancer. Born Neville Beckford (nephew of Theophilus Beckford), Jah Woosh saw his deejay career take off in the 1970s with his very first album, "Jah Woosh", produced by Rupie Edwards in 1974, which earned him a fine reputation across the Channel. Before that, he had formed the duo Neville & George with his pal Georges Daley, who would later become Reggae George.

Jah Woosh is known for that eponymous first album but also for the essential "Chalice Blaze" (his favourite, as he confides in an interview with Heartical). He also joined Adrian Sherwood's Singers & Players.

Jah Woosh was also a producer, through his labels Septembre, Skyjuice and Original Music, on which he put out many reissues of his own tracks. In the 1980s, with the advent of digital, he gradually left the music scene and settled in Ghana.
