Deprived of his American visa since April 2010, Mavado has recovered the precious document, the Star reports. At the time, the US embassy in Kingston had ordered airlines to bar Bounty Killer, Beenie Man, Mavado, Aidonia and Ricky Trooper from boarding planes to the United States (news of 19/05/2010).
Mavado, aka David Brooks, is thus the first of these artists to get his visa back. In New York this weekend, he was the guest of Bobby Konders and Jabba on the airwaves of Hot 97 FM for an exclusive interview.
His manager Julian Jones-Griffith told the Star: "Since he lost his visa in April 2010, Mavado has not commented on the situation, in the media or in his songs. Now that the matter has been resolved, we will maintain that dignity and will not comment. Mavado is looking forward to working in the United States again, where his army of fans will be able to see him on stage after a prolonged absence."
"We have a lot of projects in the pipeline," he continues, "which we will announce in due course. We thank everyone who supported us through this difficult period, we will not forget you. As for the others, we will not forget them either."
