The family label VP Records is in mourning following the loss of Joel Chin, 35, shot dead on Tuesday evening in Jamaica. Joel was the grandson of Vincent and Patricia Chin (the V and the P of VP) and the son of Clive Chin, who notably produced Augustus Pablo at Randy's in the early 70s.
Based in Jamaica for two years, Joel Chin was returning home to Stony Hill in the evening when he came face to face with the killers, who were apparently waiting for him in his driveway.
He had been involved in the label's operations since the age of 20, focusing mainly on dancehall, Jamaican current affairs and young artists. Joel Chin is notably responsible for the Reggae gold and Strictly the best compilation series.
