The Jamaican government is about to honour Dennis Brown with the Order of Distinction, to be awarded posthumously on National Heroes Day, 17 October.
Brown, who died in 1998, will be raised to the rank of Commander. The singer is thus celebrated for his remarkable musical contribution. He will not be the only one decorated that day: Miss Millicent Dolly May Small, better known as Millie Small, will receive the insignia at the rank of Commander for her contribution to the Jamaican music industry.
Finally, Mr Highland Ralph "Dobby" Dobson (the author of the magnificent Loving Pauper, notably covered by Gregory Isaacs) receives it at the rank of Officer for his contribution to reggae and his representation of Jamaican culture.
The Order of Distinction is the fifth order of precedence awarded by the Jamaican government.
