Deejay Ranking Trevor has died

Less than a week after the death of singer Sluggy Ranks, another veteran artist has been killed in a road accident in Kingston.

Deejay Ranking Trevor has died

Veteran deejay Ranking Trevor, 60, was knocked down and killed yesterday morning while riding his motorbike.

Born in Waterhouse, Maxwell Grant began his deejay career in 1974 on the King Attorney sound system with Danny Dread. The sound was later renamed Socialist Roots.

Around the same time, Ranking Trevor recorded for the Channel One label: Caveman skank, Three piece chicken and chips, and his versions of Queen Majesty and Truly were his main claims to fame.

Thanks to a few hits in England, he began a second career there in the early 80s. He lived there for 20 years before moving back to Jamaica.

More than a studio artist, Ranking Trevor was above all a devotee of sound systems, whose influence extends well beyond his discography.
