Yet another Jamaican band on top of the world! After the Dubtonic Kru, winners of the 2010 edition, the four members of Di Blueprint won the final of the Global Battle of the Bands on 9 December at the Scala in London.
The GBOB is the biggest competition for bands from the four corners of the globe (30 countries represented), showcasing a wide range of musical genres.
Winners of the national qualifying round in Jamaica on 11 December 2011, Di Blueprint this time triumphed in the final over Manfelleow (2nd, Roumania), Stinkin' Wayz (3rd, Bahamas), Heston Drop (4th, Australia), Xinfu District (5th, Norway) and Wanderlust (6th, Cyprus).
Besides the gold statuette for "Best New Band in the World", the Jamaican quartet won a "development package" of $100,000.
Graduates of the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts in Kingston (like the bands Raging Fyah and Pentateuch, among others), Verne Hill, Elton Brown, Alex Gallimore and Kedron Kennedy, the four members of Di Blueprint, were keen to dedicate their victory to Rameish Folkes, the band's former keyboardist, who died on 7 May at the age of 25.
