It will be the film that "explains everything", promises the poster: "Lee Scratch Perry's Vision of Paradise" aims to be the definitive film on the life and work of Jamaica's craziest producer.
Its director, the German Volker Schaner, is presenting his project on the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter, which lets anyone "co-produce" the film in return for rewards.
Volker Schaner met the eccentric producer 13 years ago. They became friends, and he gathered his confessions and his view of the world. He describes his project not as a biography but as a "fairy-tale documentary", something unlike anything known: "a guide to how to change the world with music".
To date, 21 people have backed "Lee Scratch Perry's Vision of Paradise", raising 1,522 of the 20,000 dollars sought. There are 56 days left to back the film.
