Eek A Mouse is a free man
on Friday, August 30th 2013 - 9 425 views
Eek A Mouse is a free man. After a long legal ordeal stemming from events dating back to 2008, the deejay regained his freedom in July, reports the Couter Banks Voice. He faced twenty years in prison.
In 2008: after a concert in North Carolina (United States), the deejay had been arrested and jailed the next day for first-degree kidnapping, second-degree rape and possession of cocaine and marijuana. (news of 22/08/2008)
Released after posting $52,000 bail, Eek A Mouse had left the USA and failed to appear at two hearings in 2008 and 2010 (his lawyer explained that he was stuck in Holland because of the eruption of the Eyjafjöll volcano in Iceland). Hence the international arrest warrant issued by Judge Jerry Tillett against the artist, finally tracked down by federal agents in Paraguay in November 2012. Deported to North Carolina in December, he had been waiting since then for his appearance before the judge, scheduled for 8 July.
But a very generous deal was struck: only the two least serious charges (misdemeanours) were retained: assault and "attempted crime against nature", which Eek A Mouse did not contest. For each of these charges, he received the maximum, i.e. 120 days' detention, deducted from the time he had already spent behind bars. An arrangement reached in the presence of the victim, specifies his lawyer Phillip Hayes, who points out that the deejay "has always maintained his innocence."
