For the first time in ten years in France, the music market is on the rise. The Syndicat national de l'édition phonographique (SNEP) has announced a 6.1% increase in CD and download sales in the first half of 2013. A first for the sector since 2003.

This upturn covers both physical sales (+6.4%) and digital sales (+5.5%).
In detail, the first quarter of 2013 (-6.7%) was largely offset by the second (+22.7%), marked by the releases of several heavyweights (Les Enfoirés, Daft Punk, Maitre Gims).
A recovery that "confirms the slowing of the market's decline observed since 2009", in the words of the SNEP.
In the first half of 2013, 1 album in 6 was bought online and the digital share of the market remains stable at around 30% of a turnover of €217.8 million (€153 million from the physical market, and €64.8 million from the digital market).
In 2004, music generated a turnover of €415 million.
