It has been 20 years since the French producer Frenchie launched his label Maximum Sound, based in London. To mark the anniversary, a compilation titled " Maximum Sound 20:20" sums up the label's golden hours across two CDs of twenty tracks each, as he told us in our recent interview.
From Bunny General, who opens the tracklist (Spy Fi Die), to Romain Virgo and Konshens (the very recent We No Worry Bout Them), it took 40 tracks to go back over the two decades, to 1993.
At that time, there were hardly any Europeans competing with the Jamaicans. The tracklist revisits Frenchie's feats of arms and his best-known series (Intercom, World Jam, Blackboard, Skateland Killer, Tin Mackerel, Dunza 2010, Fowl Fight Riddim, Fairground…) Reggae or dancehall, Frenchie's productions have over the years hosted the finest representatives of island music (Sizzla, Bounty Killer, Vybz Kartel, Tarrus Riley, Mr. Vegas, Morgan Heritage, Sean Paul, Junior Kelly…) Not to mention his albums for Anthony B, Lukie D and Luciano.
Ideal for (re)discovering the label's prolific catalogue, "Maximum Sound 20:20" will be available on 16 September 2013
