Singer Lloyd Robinson, author of the famous Cuss Cuss, died last week at Kingston Public Hospital, on 5 November 2013. He was 68.

Born in Kingston, Altemont Thomas Robinson, to use his real name, began recording in 1962. For a time a member of the rocksteady group The Tartans with Cedric Myton (The Congos), he also formed a duo with Devon Russel, Lloyd and Devon (cutting the hit Red Bum Ball, produced by Derrick Morgan on his Hop label), and another with singer-producer Glen Brown.
He worked notably with producers Duke Reid (Fire Fire), Lloyd Daley (Death a come) and Coxsone Dodd (It deep).
His career is dominated by the monstrous Cuss Cuss, recorded in 1969 at Harry J, in which he denounces the violence that was (already) gnawing at the country. Notably covered by Horace Andy, the Cuss Cuss riddim has become a great classic over time, and one of the riddims with the most versions.
Lloyd Robinson will be buried on 24 November at Dovecot Memorial Park.
