"It was the first hour of glory of the revolution": those are the opening words of Dubamix's new album, "Pour qui sonne le dub". Like "Mix A Dub en 2008", this new heavyweight is packed with big words like "revolution", "solidarity", "class struggle" or "general assemblies". Libertarian and anarchist, Dubamix's dub develops a radical political voice that is very rare in reggae.
Dubamix's "red red dub" takes the form of collages that are both deranged and inspired, mixing extracts of political speeches (Besancenot, Manuel Valls, Nicolas Sarkozy…), news flashes, Jamaican riddims and classic works (Chaplin's Modern Times, Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet), and even some Reggiani! An out-of-the-ordinary musical object, a political firebrand that pays tribute to utopias and draws a parallel between the struggles of yesterday and today's fights.
Dubamix's commitment also shows in his actions. For example, making his music free to download, or playing in support of the Confédération nationale du travail in Paris a few days ago.
Dubamix will play several times in France this spring, and even at the May Day demonstration in Nuremberg, Germany. Militant dub, we tell you!
