I Kong, back after thirty years of silence
on Tuesday, March 24th 2015 - 19 958 views
Author of the masterpiece The Way It Is, I Kong ends a retirement of nearly thirty years and returns with a new album, "A Little Walk", recorded with the Swiss musicians of Najavibes for the label Fruits Records.
I Kong (Errol Kong by his real name) is none other than the nephew of the famous producer Leslie Kong, head of the label Beverley's Records. He began his career in the early 60s in the group The Jamaicans and then under the name Ricky Storm, notably forming the duo Ricky & Bunny with Bunny Ruggs, the future singer of Third World. In 1972 he recorded the song The Way It Is, with the musicians of Inner Circle (Jacob Miller's group), the album of the same name only coming out in 1979 (it was reissued by VP in 2006). After this feat, next to nothing: a second album in 82, a handful of new songs, a few concerts... It was time to break a silence of nearly three decades!
A showcase album (6 songs, 4 dubs), "A Little Walk" was recorded in Jamaica with Scully Simms on percussion, Dalton Browne on guitar and Sting Wray on horns, and the mixing was entrusted to Roberto Sanchez. Available on vinyl on 13 April, "A Little Walk" will also precede I Kong's return to Europe for the summer festivals. Good news, I Kong is back!
