The emblematic DJ of the British airwaves has thrown in the towel: in a statement, David Rodigan announced that he is resigning from Kiss FM, where he had been on air for 22 years. The reason: the "continued marginalisation of reggae" in the station's schedule.

David Rodigan, who earlier this year became a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (news of 09/01/2012), will no longer present on the station that has been inseparable from his name since 1990.
"I am writing to let you know that I resigned today from my position as presenter at Kiss FM. I have been on the station for 22 years, shared wonderful moments with fantastic artists, and it is with great sadness that I take this decision.
Because of the continued marginalisation of reggae in the station's schedule, I have no choice but to take a stand for my passion and the music I love so much.
As Bob Marley said, 'the stone that the builders refuse shall be the head cornerstone'. Reggae was played in the street, not on the radio, and Kiss's refusal to schedule their only reggae show at an accessible listening time led to my decision. Reggae deserves more respect, as do the fans and lovers of this music."
His show had indeed been pushed back to the middle of the night to make room for Craig David. In a statement, Kiss FM said: "We have the greatest love and respect for David, both personally and professionally... He leaves us with our sincere thanks and gratitude for everything he has achieved with Kiss."
