A new riddim straight from England, and more precisely Birmingham: the Chunky 12'', an original urban dancehall riddim, is the first official production from the Friendly Fire Music label.
A veteran deejay of the English scene, Pablo Rider was one of the most popular in the 80s and shared stages and tours with Pato Banton, Macka B and UB 40. After 10 years of silence, he joins the ranks of the Friendly Fire collective and returns with Jah Will Provide.
Tha Usual Suspect, formerly known as Paradox, is one of the most highly regarded female MCs in the Midlands. Her Jamaican roots resonate in her hip hop flow on Promises Promises, where she denounces the excesses of an unscrupulous producer she met during her career.
Active on the international scene for a few years, Ras Tweed is also known for his collaborations with Murray Man, Kruder and Dorfmeister, Quantic and Al haca. With I Am That I am, he delivers the most mesmerising track of the set.

In Jamaica, the lifeblood of the record industry is the riddim (from "rhythm"), an instrumental produced by a label. A label that does not settle for recording a single artist on that riddim, but as many as it can: this is what is called a "series". To make a name for itself, a label will try to get big names on its riddim. Amid the endless flow of releases, artists have every interest in voicing the most popular riddim of the moment. Every week in Jamaica, more than a hundred 7" singles are produced this way. Only later, if an artist manages to find a distributor and a record company, can they make an album, which usually gathers some of those singles.
